With decades of experience in the film industry, Cushla is passionate about storytelling across drama, documentary and commercials.

Her editing craft has been recognised with numerous NZ Film and TV Best Editor awards – Orphans and Kingdoms (2015); Snakeskin (2001); and Topless Women Talk About Their Lives (1997) – alongside awards for television drama Wanted (2018), and the feature documentary Beautiful Machine (2012). Cushla has also edited some of the most successful New Zealand feature documentaries including Academy Award shortlisted documentary feature This Way Of Life (2009); Pictures Of Susan (2012); How Far Is Heaven (2012); and Trouble Is My Business (2018).

Cushla’s recent feature documentary ‘King Loser’, which she edited and co-directed with Andrew Moore, was selected for the Whānau Marama / NZ International Film Festival in 2023.

 In 2004 she was invited to the Binger Institute Scriptwriting course in Amsterdam which inspired a deeper understanding of cinematic storytelling. Cushla currently has a feature film in development she is both script editing and producing.
